Final Fantasy XIII Shops
Today I want to talk about the shopping system in Final Fantasy XIII. Unlike past games shops are not literal physical shops with shop keepers and such, with multiple shops in one town for different things, an item shop, weapon, etc. But in FF XIII the shops are virtual and accessible at all save points. This is good because it allows like 10 different shops to be accessed at one point to get items, weapons, and the upgrade items for weapons, and other things. But it was sort of funny that a big part of the game is the main characters fleeing from the Cocoon's government and people, but if people can be tracked with credit cards couldn't they be tracked by buying things at these shops?

Final Fantasy XIII Eidolons
Since I believe I recently acquired the final Eidolon, I have one for each main character, I will talk about the eidolon system in FF XIII. So to acquire an eidolon you must earn its trust by fighting it. The first battle against the Shiva twins was simple, one twin kept you healed while you fought them by doing things to make their gestalt gauge go up by doing specific things for each character: Snow increased the gauge faster by using the Sentinel paradigm. A twist in this is your character is inflicted with doom so you have like 1500 seconds to do this, and the Shiva battle is only in which the eidolon heals you.
I am a little upset how they seemed to take some of the classic eidolons and make them mechanical, but I do admit they look cool. The ones that are new like Alexander and Hecatoncheir are pretty cool. I really like how Alexander is a floating fortress in gestalt mode. That brings me to the battle system, when the eidolon is first summoned you battle alongside it while its "health" steadily goes down, faster if it, and building up the gestalt gauge, when you think it is high enough and before its health goes all the way down press square and enter gestalt mode in which you ride the eidolon. In this mode you choose various modes that use up the gestalt and when empty the eidolon leaves and you and your party is fully healed and ready to finish the battle if it is still going!

More on Final Fantasy XIII
I have been playing it a lot lately and have found to like it a lot more than at first. I certainly agree with Duke of Science who called it "Corridor Explorer" that is mostly what it is, but the story and fascinating battle system has gotten me hooked. After my characters became L'Cie and gained access to magic and different paradigms [jobs] battling became more about strategy and the switching between six playable characters has kept me on my toes. It has been pretty enjoyable so far. I also like how the game over works, I am able to retry before the battle and prepare more for the specific battle, instead of potentially loosing progress from going back to the last save point. The shops are useful but I do miss the inn and shops from the old games.

Final Fantasy XIII
So I recently received my PS3, scrounged up cables which worked and tried it out. Overall I am glad with my purchase. My cousin allowed me to use his controller for a little bit so I have only played the very beginning to FF XIII, but so far I think it is pretty good. The first two characters Lighting and Sasz are pretty cool. I am a fan of the baby chocobo. The fighting setup of the game is different but very similar to other games, but works. But I am scowling at the lack of magic.
